Nope didn't summon cockroaches. But I am getting so mad. Mad at people who keep saying Yin is a replacement for Bai.

NO
NO
NO

Could a teammate replace your sister!? NO NEVER!

Hei doesn't NEED A SISTER REPLACEMENT! Bai is with Hei all the time through his powers! That whole fucking theme was to show us that the dead stay with us in out hearts and not to be sad about it. If Yin replaced Bai why the fuck would Hei need to be sad!? OH THAT IS RIGHT! She doesn't replace Bai and Hei is still sad.

I don't care if you think Hei and Yin have a bro-sis relationship because two people can have that. But Yin is not a sister replacement or analog. She really doesn't resemble Bai at all. Not in her theme, appearance or personality. So please for the love of all the that good stop saying Yin is Hei's sister replacement.

Rant over sorry for swearing. I'm just sick of seeing that argument. I think it is based off "Oh Hey look a girl who is younger than him and they have a bro-sis relationship....SISTER REPLACEMENT!" Ugh. Stupid.

Darker than Black Fanbook Scanlation Project

  • Nov. 25th, 2009 at 12:02 AM
Midriff Hei
Hello everybody! I have been busy with exams so I have not forgotten about this project.

So here is our staff...
Translators: vesperia, cammala (Japanese>Russian)
Cleaners: ensuing, acordak, csg_dear4life
Typesetters: ensuing, acordak, cosmiko_ling, forgottendiary, csg_dear4life
Editors: lowtide(P&Q) ,sashide(P)

I sent the link to the scans in the message.

To the cleaners: How many pages do you think you can do in a week if you are not busy? I'd like to know so I can assign pages.

To Vesperia: Will you be giving use bits of the translation? Or all of it in one lump sum? Either is fine. I'd just like to know.

Vesperia: I'll probably be going page by page, and sending them like that. And if a sentence runs off a page, then I'll just finish the sentence (so no awkward stops)

To the typesetters: Wait patiently. XD I'm sure you will have some pages to work on soon. Also I was wondering if we should just use Comic Sans for the whole scanlation? I have to look in the fanbook but I'm not sure if we want to change fonts if the fanbook changes fonts. It might be a bit hard to coordinate who has what font.

Everyone have a great weekend and/or holiday!

I really seem like I don't know what I am doing.... Sorry for all the messages!

TYPESETTERS PLEASE READ THE COMMENTS. I WILL BE COMPILING A LIST OF FONTS AND WE CAN GO FROM THERE. I WILL MAKE A NEW POST AFTER THE FONTS ARE PICKED.

Fonts suggested by Forgottendiary:

Fonts suggested by Ensuing:

Fonts suggested by Cosmiko_ling:

Also I have a tag 'fanbook' for all these posts so we can go back and look everything over.

Okay so this person didn't have the gall to sign in. Also they must not be a Yin fan at all...

So crazy ooc for yin.
She's a doll, sweety, not a regular girl.
It would've been so touching if you'd stuck to her actual personality.

Hmm this is not true. She has shown emotions before. Crying, saying 'Don't leave me alone' was full of emotion. She has acted on her own. She checked on Hei in the Gate, she chose to stay. She can tell when Hei is acting diffrent... like after Havoc's death and during the Kenji/Doll arc.

So I'm thinking this person is just wanting to be mean. So this is why I am replying.

this one would be better than that other one.
And it was, mildly.

The only thing I noticed was that yin would not have wrapped her arms around
him first. She doesn't have impulses like that.

But then i got to the ending.
It's almost the exact same ending as your other one, Still want you.
LOL.

Babe, don't copy your own endings. It makes you kinda suckish.

Yep, they are right with my endings being the same so I don't mind that part. That is the only part is where this person is actually right. Hmmm but Yin not having impulses like that? LOL to you. She does act out on her own. She did so many times. Taking Hei's hand, send out her specter, deciding to stay... BLAH BLAH this can all be put down with the same arguements.

So I have concluded this is just a person who doesn't like Yin reading somethingt hey don't like. Oh well. I hope they didn't do it to everyone's stories. It seems they did it to some others. I admit I'm not the best writer around but I like stories as long as they are readable.

What is with this!?

I keep looking around and EVERYONE is saying they marathoned Darker than Black and are watching now Ryuusei no Gemini. I think this is quite elist of me.... but how do you get the full effect of Darker than back from watching it one time?! And marathoning it at that? I have watched this series 4 times... the first was because I was attracted to the darkness of it, and I came in half way but I also got to experience the agony of waiting for the next episode, I just loved the over all story and the character's stories.

The second time I noticed the way the characters interacted and how they changed and all the bonds and things. It was what made Darker than Black my favorite anime of all time.

The third time I watched it I noticed all the subtle comments on life and themes... and I fell even more in love!

The 4th time was to refresh my memory for Ryuusei no Gemini. And I feel like some of the themes are still applying here...

I don't know if a person CAN notice all that detail with one watch through. And that is all I have to say on that.

Oh and by the way I can never hate An Cafe because they are what got me in to Darker than Black. Now you may not like their style or sound but their lyrics suited the show.

Sorry people....

Hmm I've ben reading some stuff about Yin and Hei and why they were separated and how Suoh is gonna fit into all this.

I think Suoh does like Hei, but obviously doesn't feel that way about her. She will be conflicted for a while after losing her 2nd love but she will eventually help Hei.

Now someone said Yin left Hei after saying 'Don't leave me alone!' and how that is wrong.

It would be wrong under certain conditions, none that Yin would do to Hei that fit betrayal.

Maybe she left him to protect him from fighting? Or to get him out of the mess of her evolved powers? That seems like something Yin would do. I don't think she wants Hei to be getting hurt for her all the time. But maybe now that has backfired on her. It is still born out of good intentions is it not?

Or maybe Yin was kidnapped? That is also a valid reason. Her powers did evolve after all.

I do not think Misaki, Suoh and Yin will be fighting over who gets to protect Hei. Suoh will have her feelings resolved and then she will Help Hei save Yin. Misaki is right next to Yin so I also think she will help reunite Hei and Yin. That is sort of where I think this is going.

There will be a tender reunion though... Maybe they will be playing cards together? How cute would it be for them to be playing a game? Ahhh I can't wait.

Bwhahahaha.

I think Souh and Hei are becoming friends. That is nice. Maybe this will be a brother/sister or father/daughter relationship?

By the way I'd like to explain why I type Suoh this way. 'Suoh' Was the first way I have seen this spelled. Also Suou seems like to many vowels. Sue-oh-u? They say Suoh not Sue-oh-u which is the was Suou would be pronounced... Unless I am hearing things which I am notorious for doing.

My copy came in today and I was so excited. I flipped through it right away! Then I took a few pictures. I will properly scan it tomorrow and Friday if I can get the scanner to hook up to my laptop. Wah! That was so much information. I hope my scans will be good enough to translate it.

So there they are. Sorry for the bad pictures. I have never done this before!

I bought the Darker than Black fanbook off Kinokuniya. I want to scream! It was 15 bucks and the shipping only brought it to a little over 20. I'm so happy~ I don't know when they will get it because the website said it was sold out. When I go to NYC in December I am buying the manga~ And then maybe scanning the extras. I'd love to read what the creator is talking about.

I am going to read my fan book all day when I get it haha. I want to scan it too but not bend it too badly. I hope my scanner is big enough as well.

Wish me luck.

I think you can buy it from the website and they will ship it anywhere. If anyone is wondering.

Anyway I think I am going to start commenting of my other fandoms as well.

First Sakura Taisen:

A bunch of fans are in an uproar about name changes. Screw it! Be more worried about game play, plot and scenario changes! I'm kind of Meh on the 5th game because Oogami is not in it. And I LOVE Oogami. Actually I might be one of the few people who actually has the 4th game's ending picture for him and Sakura. Sakura is my other favorite character from these games.

Here it is

Another thing I am mad about is the absolute lack of research done about the USA in the 20's the Japanese team did. Yeah they wanted a cool black character but to give her a Jewish name and have her be a lawyer and actress? Hmmm not during that time. It is sad but there would never have been a WOMAN like that, much less a black woman with all the racism, during that time. So you know people can't get mad at Westerners who make up Asian names or cast Chinese women in the roles of Japanese characters anymore. Both sides don't give a damn and then have the balls to get upset?

Oh yeah and good one on naming a girl Rachet. No seriously. Lachette is how you'd be pronouncing it anyway and sounds a million times better the RATCHET.

Kimi Ni Todoke:

The anime is AMAZING! I love the opening song, the drawings. But I don't like the ending song, the singer has such a scratchy voice and that doesn't sound nice.

But in the manga now there is a huge misunderstanding between Kazehaya and Kuronuma because of another boy! I think that one of them should confess already because the readers know that they both love each other. Ahhhh but then this manga would end...

I hope that one day the light novels will be scanned and or translated since the mangaka is on hiatus because she is pregnant.

I made a 'set' of graphics for a forum I am on.

PLEASE STOP IT!

These ladies at my work keep trying to set me up with their sons. One son is too fashionable for me and the other is kinda cute but... I think I need to date someone who likes anime or Japan at least because that is a huge part of me! And besides, I'm not the most beautiful girl and I don't wear make up unless I cosplay or am going to a reaaaaaaally big party. I doubt they would be interested. They are guys after all. Not to mention I can get super shy.

Anyway on to my one true love~DTB. Haha.

I watched the sub. A new contractor team is forming! Hei is Huang. Huang drank to forget, so does Hei. Huang looked terrible, so does Hei with that beard!

Mao is still Mao. Suoh has Hei's position. July has taken Yin's place.

Suoh's code name can be Hong(Hone) and July's can be Lanse(Lansu).

But who is this mysterious Onna that everyone is working for? And they want to take the Syndicate out? Hmmm plot thickens...

On to pictures.

A Hei/Yin Manifesto is in the Works

Under a Sky of False Stars, Love is Found
Title still under consideration

The Star of a Contract Fell...

In episode 2 Hei has to get close to Chiaki to retrieve an item from her that the syndicate wants. So he gains her trust and they end up in a cafe. This line is said when Chiaki is in the bathroom.

Huang: Take care of the woman before she becomes a problem. (Kill Chiaki before she becomes a problem.)

As you remember Hei actually takes a bullet for the Doll later in the episode. It appears to be that he took the bullet to pretend he is dead. Then the Doll takes Hei's place and her heart is replaced with a rock.

Huang: Why didn't you kill that puppet?
Hei: She wasn't a puppet. She was alive
.

This dialogue shows that Hei doesn't believe that Dolls are just tools to be programed to do organizations bidding. I find it interesting that we see his stance on dolls so early in the series. Now this is important because Yin's arc mimics this a bit, which I will get to.

Chiaki says 'Don't leave me alone!' as well

The Red Dream of a Calamity Disappears in Eastern Europe...

During Havoc's arc we get to see the cruel side and the caring side of Hei. He comforts Havoc as they go into the gate. He promises her that everything will be fine even if she does regain her powers and her terrible remuneration. Havoc is tragically killed by November 11 and it is very emotional for Hei and the watcher. And when he is getting scolded by Huang who understands that Hei is hurt by the death of Havoc? Yin. She takes his hand to comfort him but it is just like Havoc did when Hei was taking her to the Gate. Yin reaches out to him because she knows he is upset, and no one else is paying to his emotions. Then Hei pulls his hand away and it seems that he doesn't accept Yin's attempt at comforting him.

Within the Wall, When You Recover Something Lost...

In episode 12 during the Gate arc Hei encounters another contractor who wants the Meteor Shard. The fight they get into causes an explosion. Hei is then sitting in the explosion sight when he looks over and see Yin's surveillance specter. He thought that this mission was going to be unmonitored so it was strange for Yin to be tracking him. Though we see that she is doing it out of worrying for Hei's safety. At the end of the episode Hei goes to the tobacco shop to thank her, which shows us that he is grateful for her caring about him.

On a Silver Night, the Heart Does Not Sway on the Water's Surface...

Yin is tracking some agents of the FBS and one of the contractors steals her specter which then makes her wander aimlessly for a while. Also during this time a man from Yin's past, Eris Kostinen, Has hired Gai and Kiko to find Yin.

Huang: Just take care of yourselves. They don't care about losing a Doll.
-Later in the episode-
Huang: Next time you find them, I don't care what the situation is. You kill Yin!

After the second line there is some dialogue about sticking together, about being a team. Hei then says that Huang isn't one of them because he is a coward. He has to be referring to Huang wanting to just kill Yin and cover for himself. Huang then gives Hei the ultimatum to either kill Yin or he will. Now, we all know how Hei feels about Dolls. We learned that in episode 2 and that is part of his hesitation.

Mao: When we find Yin, will you really be able to kill her?
Hei: She's just a doll.
Mao: Then why did you cave her before?

Mao really shows some insight here. Why would a contractor save a Doll? What is the point they are expendable. Hei recalls Mao's question while he is on the train to go after Yin. Which causes Hei to remember his mission in the Gate when he was Yin's specter. So now we see that Hei isn't just chasing Yin because he believes Dolls are alive but also because Yin showed that she cares about him and is worried about him.

Gai: She was so quiet and docile... Just like a Doll! ... Though her face and words don't reflect it, her soul weeps! Don't you get it?! Nobody on Earth should be treated like a doll!
Hei: That may be.

This again shows us Hei's understanding of Dolls and his understanding of one Doll in particular, Yin.

Eris then asks Hei if he is her partner in some shady deal and Yin is shocked that Hei answers yes. This bring Yin to ask Hei if they are friends. Hei then gives her a choice to stay as Yin or to go back to being Kirsi. Once again the emotionless Doll is surprised. She chooses to stay as Yin and Hei asks if she is sure, which shows that he also cares about her as well. Then Hei receives Yin's first genuine smile after becoming a Doll.

This arc reaffirms Hei's belief that Dolls are more than husks of humans. The only real difference is that now he has a significant bond to a Doll. A Doll is now his friend.

The Memory of Betrayal is an Amber Smile...

This is where were see a few parallels between Amber and Yin. At the end of episode 15

Amber: It might be strange to hear me say it, but I've become really attached to this name.

Isn't Yin also attached to her name? She chose Yin over Kirsi in her arc. Why is Amber attached to her name though? Could it be because it is the code name Hei called her? Amber is still in love with Hei and wants to see him happy.

In episode 16...

Amber: This one time, he actually smiled at me. It was...Well, it was a real smile. When he did, I thought, "Wow, I can't resist him. I'd do anything at all for him." I would do anything to just see that smile again. -looks at Yin- You must feel the same.

Yin: Me?

Amber: -Nods-  Take care of him will you?

This is the biggest parallel. Amber is explaining her love of Hei to Yin and then says that Yin loves him too. Yin seems unsure because maybe she isn't used to these emotions because she is a doll. Then Yin tries to stop Hei from hurting Amber because she understands Amber. When Amder stops time and Kisses Hei, he is looking at Yin. That is something powerful. The man you love is looking at another woman while you kiss him...

I'll Sing a Love Song at the Garbage Dump...

This is an arc about love. Where someone falls love with a doll. When Kenji meets the Doll he really doesn't understand what she is, but he treats her as a normal person. He wonders about her future and doesn't believe that she is just an 'item' to be sold. He goes to Hei to try and escape with the Doll. Now doesn't Kenji's attitude mimic Hei's just a little bit? They both believe that Dolls are people and not just insignificant.

After returning from shopping Hei finds that Yin is in his apartment along with Kenji and the Doll. Kenji asks, lightheartedly, if Yin is Hei's girlfriend.

Hei: You're tracking me!?
Yin:...
Hei: Did Huang tell you to do this?
Yin: -Shakes head-
Hei: Then why?
Yin: You were acting strangely Hei.

Yin was once again worried about Hei because he is acting strangely. Hei is surprised by her answer but he doesn't question her further. If you listen to how Hei is talking to Yin he sounds less and less angry. Hei then asks Yin to help the other doll change and two interesting conversations go on.

Yin: Are you sure he is the one?
Doll: ...
Now why would Yin even think of asking the Doll that sort of question? Has she been asking herself the same question? It seems that Yin sympathises with the Doll's situation.

Hei: You might well live out your life, fearing attack, never able to stay in one place.
Kenji: I'm ready for that.
Hei: What will you do for money? Where will you stay? Even if you can find a job, what will you do wit her while you work? You can't do this alone.
Kenji: I'll find a way.
Hei: Why her? She neither thinks nor speaks. Why are you so fixated on her?

Hei asks so many questions for Kenji who's answers are strong willed but he has no plan. Hei gets increasingly mad to the point where he is glaring at Kenji. Why would he be getting mad though? Because Kenji brought the Doll to him and Hei was supposed to steal the doll? Couldn't he have just kncok Kenji out and taken the Doll? Is he mad at Kenji because by helping Kenji he is betraying the Syndicate? No... Hei has already betrayed the Syndicate, when he helped Havoc. It seems like Hei is having a little bit of inner turmoil about those questions he asked Kenji. It is almost like the Questions apply to Hei and Yin as well as Kenji and the Doll. Kenji escapes answering Hei's last question by talking to Irene and explaining her situation.

Kenji: Surely you have something like that. Someone you want to help, regardless of logic or reason.
....
Kenji: You really can't help whom you love, though.

Through out Kenji's monologue Hei is looking down in an angry but thoughtful way. If this isn't parelleling then what is? This situation is clearly pointing to toward some romance between Hei and Yin by showing the love Kenji has for the Doll.

This episode also demonstrates their teamwork. Yin is able to help Hei get rid of the Yakuza guys by being a decoy.  When Mao says that it is a trap because the Doll's specter shows up, Hei knows better. He knows that Doll's can send out their specters on their own. He has experienced it twice so far from Yin.

Kenji is getting beat up because he keeps saying that the Doll is just a girl. That she isn't just a Doll. Now Hei didn't get beat up but wasn't he told to kill a Doll twice and didn't kill them? Now why did he do that again? Oh yes because he believe Dolls are people.

Aniki: Hey so you have something you'd risk your life to protect? I don't. I did, though, at one point.

Isn't he telling Hei to find someone to protect like he did in Kenji's flashback? Hei has found someone to protect and that is who he walks toward.

Near the end of the episode when Huang is telling them that the mission is canceled Hei is looking at Yin sitting on the swing and not participating in the conversation. When Huang askes Hei what is wrong and Hei replies 'Nothing'. Maybe nothing is wrong after all, that he has come to terms with all the questions he asked Kenji.

The episode is also about Hei reaching out to other people, but who reached out to him first? Yin when she took his hand to comfort him.

Meteor Shower

Once they are in the Gate they see a specter and Yin says it s calling. Hei trusts Yin while Mao is doubtful. Sadly Mao leaves them and Amber's doll's die, so there are no more specters to follow. Yin closes her eyes to contemplate and then decides to jump down into the water. Hei obviously finds this strange and is worried when she jumps. But once he looks over and sees that she is safe and just proecting, he smiles and then jumps down to follow her. And then Yin leads Hei to Amber so that they can talk.

Is the Dream That a God of Death Has a Darkness Darker Than Black?

Amber: It seems like you're not mad anymore.
-Hei looks at her-
Amber: I am sure it is because of that cat and her.

Amber is telling us that Mao and Yin have helped Hei change. We have especially seen Yin helping him change.

Hei: If I release that power...If I want to meet with Bai...Contractors and humans alike...
What will happen to all the people who live in this city?!
Will they vanish,Just like in South America?
I can't do this...
Amber: Then all contractors will disappear. Yin, and myself too.
All contractors on this planet... All except you, Hei.

Why would Hei be so passionate about not wanting to destroy the city? Cound it be that he has made bond with the people? Yes. Could it be that there are people he doesn't want to disappear? Yes. Then Amber sys that Yin and herself will disappear. If amber is using Yin to sway Hei's decision then she must be very important to Hei.

When Amber shoves the Meteor Core into Hei's chest we see him as a child. Then we see the stars and the moon. What do we know about the moon? That it's light means atonement. So, Hei is going to be relieved of some heavy baggage. But why is he crying? He says he didn't want everything to disappear. I has to be because now he has things and people that are precious to him, like Yin, that he didn't want to disappear.

When Amber is asking him if he is making the right choice, Hei looks pained. When he hugs her, he looks pained. Hei wants to comfort Amber because she has worried about him, but he still want to make his decision. November then chimes in saying that Amber couldn't let go of Hei. She always wanted him to be happy but he has already moved on from his feeling for her. When Amber says that she doesn't want to hear Hei finish his sentance you can just tell it was going to be something that would hurt her.

Hei is then pulling into a 'black hole' and Yin calls out to him. He calls back and for the first time Yin has emotion in her voice.

Yin: Don't leave me alone!

Hei then doubles his efforts to get out of the void and Yin reaches out her hand to help him escape. So far Hei has been the only one to recieve Yin's proof of emotions, her smile and now her voice full emotion. Hei comes back to find Yin holding his hand. Hei says that Amber had been planning this all along... so doesn't that mean she knew she was going to disappear? Amber used Yin, Hei's last precious person, to get him to make the right choice.

When Hei tells Misaki that the man named Li no longer exist is telling her that the facade she knew is gone. Even though she figured it out who he was, it was too late. He already made his choice for everyone to co-exist.

Ryuusei no Gemini

Right during episode 1 during the light hearted times we see that Suoh doesn't understand love. She says that she doesn't understand but believe Tanya does now that Nika confessed. Suoh then talks with Shion who says love is a complcated feeling. Now this doesn't seem important because it is only the first episode, but looking back at it now it is important!

In episode 2 Suoh askes Hei if contractor/he can feel pain and then Hei pictures a naked Yin. So something that has to do with Yin causes Hei pain... Then at the end of the episode where Hei and Suoh get attacked by Section 3 we see one of Hei's memories. We se Yin saying Hei's name and crying. Hei is clean shaven  running after Yin telling her to stop and then she says 'Farewell'. This must be what causes Hei pain, when he thinks about Yin.

In episode 3 we are shown the memory again and then we see Hei whimper Yin's name in his sleep. Once he wakes up Suoh gets tied up. She yells at Hei that he would kill his lover or his friends. He then promptly slaps her, because he would never kill Yin. We have seen this in season 1. Yes yes, at the end of the episode Hei says he will kill "Her". But it is a very ambiguous sentence. It seems like he will kill the "Her" that did that to Yin.

In episode 4 we hear Suoh saying that she she doesn't understand love again after Norio falls for her.

In episode 5 Hei and Suoh need to destroy the anti-contractor weapon Izanami which Section 3 now has.

In episode 6 Hei fights Genma becuase the trucks were a trap. Genma then uses his powers and Hei attacks. Genma says that is Hei wastes his time his 'Precious Honey-chan' will die. To which Hei replies that he taught her how to fight. Genma asks who he is talking about and then says cheating on her is deplorable. The Genma gives away who Izanami is.... Yin! Hei is confused at first but then he figures out it is Yin and promtly leaves the fight. Suoh is aiming at the box that is being moved but Hei stops her because he knows Yin is in the box. Suoh is then curious about Yin and Mao says that Yin was the Doll on their team, their teammate. Then Mao says something interesting.... That Yin was Hei's woman in the past. Suoh seems kinda down about this...

Hei then speaks with Madame Orielle who knoew Yin was in the box and he wants to know why she wants Yin destroyed. She doesn't tell him and He calles her untrustworthy and Madame Orielle says the same to him and is disapointed because he couldn't kill Yin. It seems like he has cut his ties with the Madame.

Suoh is once again talking about Yin with Mao. She is mad at Hei for not being able to kill Yin and asks if it becuase Hei and Yin have a past. Mao tells her to ask Hei herself since he is behind her. They move to another safe house and Suoh wonders what it is like when two people are in love while drinking tea. Suoh then pictures Hei stopping her from shooting Yin.

Hei tells Suoh to stop shooting, because it doesn't suit her but I can't help but also think that it is because Suoh could potentially shoot Yin again. Suoh says se will stop shooting if he stops drinking and Hei agrees and I can't help but think he stops drinking because he has found Yin and has no more need for the bottle. This deal just seems to be a win-win for Hei.

Hei and Suoh go to the convenice stop to buy vegetables and as they are walking home Suoh sees Yin's specter try to hug Hei. Hei doesn't see the specter because he isn't a contractor anymore. Yin's specter dissolves and Suoh kicks the pole near where the specter formed.

Now Suoh mentioning all this stuff about love shows that she doesn't understand how/why two people love each other. She isn't talking about familial love either, she loves Shion her brother so she understands, she is talking about romantic love.

Arguments:
Yin has no emotions and therfore cannot be considered a love interest.

Hei and Yin's relationship is like brother and sister.

Hei and Yin's relationship is too childish. (What in the show is childish? Well besides comedic relief?)

Yin is too young for Hei.

Some nice anylises that I'd like to review and quote if possible.
